Our Story

In January 2025, a group of 6-8 local writers got together to collaborate  about our passion for writing and to learn from one another.  I have been a writer and editor forever and also a teacher for just about as long as I can remember.  Our first lesson was about Organizing Our Thoughts and how to begin. Several of the students were accomplished writers and some were first timers, but we all shared one thing: Our desire to write.

We dubbed ourselves the Cedaredge Writers Collaborative and set a schedule to meet every two weeks at the New Hope EV Free Church on Surface Creek Road.

It wasn't long until I realized these people had real talent! But what were they doing with their stories, poems, articles and interviews? Mostly they were just like the photos we keep in our phones--they stayed there. But these were great words and definitely worth sharing.  Around March or April, I got the idea of doing a local magazine. In full disclosure, I had published a magazine in Cincinnati, so I knew the ins and outs of what to do and how much work it would take to do it again. (Gulp!) But with a lot of help from all of us together, we plunged forward.

In July we published our first quarterly issue of A View of the Mesa with 28 pages and lots of reading material. Stories, interviews, poems, kids short stories--No News--just entertainment. We published 2500 copies, distributed them by hand to Cedaredge, Eckert and the surrounding areas.  In October, our second issue was just in time for Applefest and we decided to go bigger with 36 pages and 4000 copies!

In January we settled in at 36 pages and 2500 copies, which seems to be the "sweet" spot for our distribution capabilities.

I

We learned a few things along the way. 1. There are always typos. 2. It will never be perfect.

3. Everyone has a story to tell, and we have the natural curiosity to learn about that story and to gladly share it.

Which brings us to today-March of 2026. Most of writers have hung in there; we have some new ones and others that are "guest" columnists. We have a platform that allows writers to share their creativity and their passions.

We continue to have twice monthly classes (just completing 24 of them!) and we always learn from one another.

Now we are going digital!  The purpose and the plan is that our words will no longer just be limited to the 2500 copies but now will be available to our friends and family members that are scattered around the world!

It will also provide a way for our advertisers, who we could not continue on without, to get their services to more households and perhaps benefit them even more as well.  A win-win for all of us.

If you have the notion to be a writer, or just a dedicated reader, please join us as we grow our fledgling publication. Please support our advertisers and if by any chance, you would like to put your business on our pages or on this website, contact me and I assure you, we can make it happen!   Thanks for reading our words! We appreciate you!
